Separated by rugged, ancient volcanic headlands, each of the four beaches offers a completely unique atmosphere:

• Sai Wan (The Gateway): This is the most frequently visited beach and the first stop for hikers. It acts as a local hub, featuring two rustic village restaurants, public restrooms, and surfboard rentals. It is also the access point to the famous Sheung Luk Stream, where adventurers can find freshwater rock pools and hidden waterfalls tucked into the jungle.
• Ham Tin Wan (The Vibrant Hub): Famous for its iconic, narrow makeshift wooden plank bridge, Ham Tin is the heart of Tai Long Wan’s outdoor community. Here, you can dine at beachside cafes, rent camping gear, or pitch a tent under the stars.

The most common approach begins at Sai Kung Town Center. From there, take the NR29 minibus or a green taxi to the Sai Wan Pavilion trailhead. The hike from the pavilion down to Sai Wan Beach follows the well-marked Tai Long Wan Hiking Trail. It is a mostly paved, downhill path that takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes. From Sai Wan, you can continue on Stage 2 of the legendary MacLehose Trail to scale the hills over to Ham Tin Wan (an additional 45 minutes).

For a faster and highly exhilarating journey, you can charter a speedboat directly from Sai Kung Pier or Wong Shek Pier. The boat ride takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes and drops passengers straight onto the shores of Sai Wan or Ham Tin Wan. However, this route is highly dependent on ocean conditions. If waves are too high or a sudden swell hits, captains will immediately cancel all return trips, forcing travelers to hike out via the mountains.
